Tower of Light with artist A.T. Willett comemorating the world trade center and ten year aniversary of 911 2011

“Tower of Light” Glow, Oracle Arizona 2006 was a commemorative installation I made for the 5 year anniversary of 9/11. It was a temporary installation which was glowing in the Arizona night sky of September 11th. 2006 and will also be glowing in Oracle this September 11th 2011.
Materials: Made with Douglas Fir lathe strips covered with micro-fine aluminum mesh (came from Learjet auction) which gave it an over all metallic shimmer, aluminum corners, aluminum base with 300 glowing mini lights inside. The scale and overall look was made to emulate one of the World Trade Center Buildings.
The motivation for creating this project was based upon something I wrote 2 weeks after 9/11 occurred.

“Light is the energy of life, this energy connects all living beings on earth. Just as one soul connects with all others, those who have been lost in this tragedy are connected to those who have survived, those who create evil are connected to those who create love and peace. This energy of light connects everything. Light is the essence of life it is pure and unrefined, not owned by any government, religion or race of beings. These beacons of light will stretch far beyond today or tomorrow to a future untold.
We are Americans, if we can dream it we can build it. If we can dream of a future without war, or hatred, or evil, a future where light, love and peace are the core of the human race, then this is what we will build.
What do you want to dream?”
